If you've not taken a look at the new Fibaro Dimmer 2, you might just want to as it packs a lot of features.
Fibaro Dimmer 2
The Fibaro Dimmer 2 is a true universal dimmer - automatically selecting the most suitable dimming type (trailing-edge or leading-edge) based on the bulb type used. It measures the power being used and reports that to the Z-Wave system and it is fully Z-Wave Plus certified - offering increased range, extended battery life and Over The Air upgrading (OTA).
True Universal Dimmer
It's a true universal dimmer designed to work with any light source. The Dimmer 2 intelligently analyses the bulbs connected to it and then selects the most suitable dimming type - trailing-edge or leading-edge. As I've mentioned before trailing-edge dimmers are the best to use with electronic loads like LEDs that cause so many issues with conventional dimmers.
On/Off Mode
Fibaro have added a lot of features to allow the Dimmer 2 to act just like a real On/Off switch. This means it will be able to work with a wider range of bulbs, including non-dimmable ones. We've not had chance to test this yet - we're really interested, as this will open up a lot of opportunities - especially if it works in 2-wire mode.
Power Monitoring
The Dimmer 2 finally introduces power monitoring, reporting back to the Z-Wave controller the instantaneous (W) and accumulated power (KWh) being used by the light circuit. This even works in 2-wire mode (although accuracy is much better if you can use it with neutral).
2-Wire Mode - No Neutral
Carrying on the tradition of the original Fibaro Dimmer, the Dimmer 2 can be used without neutral (2-wire mode). This allows it to be installed at light switches that normally don't have neutral available. That makes the Dimmer 2 the ONLY trailing-edge dimmer that can work without neutral. It can also be used with neutral if you have it available.
Scene Control
Fibaro have extended the scene management, so that additional switches can easily be used with the Dimmer 2 module to trigger scenes in the Z-Wave controller. Much easier than having to use additional Z-Wave scene controllers.
The Fibaro Dimmer 2 looks like a great product, we have the first stock in Europe and we're already shipping to customers now. So take a look fast!
