If you haven’t already started creating your smart home, then start getting prepared to join the millions of people around the world that have.
The home automation market is on target to reach $21.67 Billion by 2020 if it carries on growing at the rate we have seen over the last decade.
We may not be at the SCFI level of The Jetsons or Star Trek just yet, but judging by the products we saw showcased at the CES show in Las Vegas this year, we may not be that far from it!
We are seeing ‘Smart’ tech integrated, in an innovative way, into dish washers, washing machines and other home appliances, as well as seeing the wearables and automotive markets seeing an increase in smart tech popularity. Home automation isn’t just about controlling your lighting while sitting in front of your smart TV or having your heating turn on when you walk out of work anymore, it is starting to become apparent in all areas of our lives. Why? I hear you ask…….Well its simple, to make life and everyday tasks easier!
Don’t get me wrong, I love the fact I can walk in and out of rooms and my lights turn on and off accordingly, not only does this save me time and energy, but it also allows me to forget about trivial things like ‘did I turn off the lights this morning when I left the house?’ Instead I fill my mind with busy tasks that are already bursting out my mind and causing me a headache. I can be more proactive with my time. Who hasn’t said ‘I need more time in the day’ while trying to visualise how they are going to complete everything in the 8 hours they have to do it in? But what I really want, and I’m sure most of you will agree, is the day I can literally wake up and walk out the door for work, knowing that my house will deal with all the jobs I know need doing, don’t have time to fit in on a normal day AND then alerts me when it’s done it……..is that too much to ask for?
I think the answer to that question over the next 20 years will be NO, and if the speed of growth in home automation over the last few years is anything to go by, that reality will happen in my life time, or at least I hope it will.
In the meantime, I will carry on looking at ways to reach this goal. Controlling my lighting, heating and security has already helped me in my busy life, so I’m ready for the next step towards my Jetson style house.
